Cozumelinsider.com is the Original website for Cozumel Carnaval Information!! For more than a decade, visitors have used Insider to stay up-to-date on Carnaval events and activities. Long before other websites and social media existed ~ we have been here! We ARE Carnavaleros so we are always right in the middle of all the festivities and happenings! Pre-Carnaval events begin in early January and Carnaval itself starts just a few weeks later!!

Let's start by explaining a bit about Pre-Carnaval events!
As you may know, each year a King and Queen of Carnaval are elected by the general population of Cozumel.These Pre-Carnaval events focus on presenting, vying for votes and electing the King and Queen of Carnaval. These are very much"locals" type events but everyone is welcome to attend.  The events typically don't even start until close to midnight and last until the wee hours of the mornings! Tourists might enjoy them but honestly, I've never promoted attendance by tourists simply because...
- The Pre-Carnaval events are typically sold out in advance anyway so its S.R.O.
- These events do run so late into the night and ...
- really the locals should maintain control of who THEY WANT as THEIR King and Queen of Carnaval.
But remember - you won't miss anything because: All Pre-Carnaval activities are performed twice :
once on Saturday in a grand ballroom ticketed event where the locals attend and
then AGAIN on Sunday in the downtown area for FREE so tourists can see!

The ritual of burning Juan Carnaval brings to a close all the activities of the week and life returns to normal until next year!!
As you can see, there is a lot going on during Carnaval!!
Plan to join in as many of the festivities as you can and become a
"Cozumelenian Carnavalero"!!!
