Sport Fishing in Cozumel |
|
Cozumel fishing charters are hard to come by during peak sport fishing season and you're about to learn why. Everyone knows that deep sea fishing is one of the most exciting ocean-going activities there is throughout the world. But there are very few locations in the world where sport fishermen can take a fishing charter and have the chance of a GRAND SLAM day ~ which means to catch all four species of billfish in one day. Deep sea fishing in Cozumel provides just such a GRAND SLAM fishing opportunity.
Fortunately, fishermen are in luck because Cozumel is one of the few places on the planet where one can try for the GRAND SLAM of catching all four billfish in a single day! All of the exciting big game fish like Blue and White Marlin, Sailfish and the night feeding Swordfish can be caught right here in the warm tropical waters surrounding Cozumel. Cozumel is also host to some of the finest eating fish as well such as Mahi-Mahi and Wahoo and Grouper.
Since Cozumel's world-reknown deep sea fishing charter fleet has been active for over 30 years, some fishing charter operators offer not only deep sea billfishing but shallow water bonefishing as well as bottom fishing. Cozumel fishing charters offer deep sea fishing or sport fishing charters for beginners to experienced anglers. Experience is not required! Most all fishing charter operators in Cozumel are family-friendly and children are welcome so make it a big family day adventure!
During the high season of Cozumel fishing (March through July) you can expect to catch Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Sail fish (these are catch and release only), Dolphin and Tuna. Year round, expect to catch Wahoo, Grouper, Barracuda, Mackerel, Amberjack, Shark and Snapper.

Sailfish
The number one target species in the area. This beautiful billfish has a large dorsal fin, resembling a sail. This fish is noted for its fighting ability & often spends as much of the battle in the air as in the water. Very difficult to catch - from enticing it to take the bait, to keeping it on the line while it is dancing on the surface. A very exciting sport fish. |
|
White Marlin
A tough fighter. Once a marlin takes your bait be prepared for a good battle and aerial display. They will take every opportunity to shake the hook off. |
|
Blue Marlin
The largest of Atlantic billfish. It is not uncommon to see this huge fish heave itself into the sky in a seemingly inexhaustible display of strength. Our populations reach 500 lbs. although they may reach 1,800 lbs. in other parts of the Atlantic. |
|
Wahoo
The game fish known for its hard running speeds of 45 mph. Wahoos are easily recognized by their long slender body with gorgeous blue vertical stripes. A very tasty fishy for eating. |
|
Tuna
They are among the world's hardest running fish and can give you a heck of a battle. In the Yucatan you can find Yellow fin, Black fin and Skipjack tunas. |
|
Barracuda
Alias, Tiger of the Sea, is an inquisitive and aggressive predator. Found inshore, it provides an aerial display, often jumping out of the water. You cannot mistake this fish, its saber like teeth are an easy giveaway. |
|
Dolphin
Also known as Dorado or Mahi Mahi are found in warm waters world wide, the Dolphin is among the most colorful of the game fish. Its hard fighting and gold-green and blue colors makes this fish one of the most popular |

Just received my beautiful map yesterday in the mail. The shipping was extremely fast and the laminated map is just wonderful. Although I know my way around pretty well, I like to have a reference just in case. I can't wait to use it when I am in Cozumel next month. Thanks! Natalie N ~ Memphis, TN USA

Thank you so much, we had a wonderful time at both adventures. Jungle Adventures took great care of us. They went above and beyond to ensure our day was a success. Thanks again to Alex, Javier and family. We also enjoyed Angel Jimenez tour with the snorkeling. Very laid back, not crowded or rushed just an absolutely perfect day!!! And we ate the best conch ceviche at El Cid. We did not have time to visit PalMar but it is on our list for next time. Thanks to all and I will be giving great reviews on trip advisor so if there is a way to work in Cozumel Insider....I will!!! Natalie & Robert (March 2016) ~ Humble, TX USA
