(01/02/2016) - IslaMar is a great place set back from the beachfront and big resorts. It is living in Mexico, if you get my drift. IslaMar is back perhaps 6 or 7 blocks from the resorts. We wanted something different this time. I loved being back with the local vibe. There are restaurants with amazing food back here. You walk to them. We walked at night through the narrow streets and visited with the friendly people. We felt safe. I'm not telling you what to do, I'm just telling you what we did. We also rented a small car and went to the beach every day. We found our dollars went a long ways in the grocery store. No place is too far away on Cozumel. Christmas Night we wandered into a park with an amphitheater. There was a clown performing. There were perhaps 200 locals there and we saw one other gringo. I loved being there and watching these beautiful people. They all seemed glad to see us. Is it for everybody? Probly not. There is a nice little clean pool, but nobody is going to bring you a margarita. If you have a hankering for fries at midnight, not going to happen. If you are set on a resort, this is not your place. But If you want to stay in a beautiful affordable villa with super cleaning and other services and run by great folks in the middle of town, you should try this. I love it and can't wait to go back! (01/12/2016) - We had the utmost pleasure of meeting Sherri last summer on a day trip to Cozumel only we could not stop thinking of the island. So we came back the following Jan and everything we imagined and hope for was true. Living with the locals, shopping, cooking exploring. It was all so wonderful. I want to come back and back. Sherri, her staff, everyone were amazing but still allowed you to have privacy. Learned a lot on this vacation and I can say we're planning our holiday for July and we're coming back. The rooms stylish, functional, clean. Just what we wanted. Again thank you for your hospitality and your friendship. We will see you in July!!!! Our kindness regards and pleasure... G. Higgs & L. (10/28/2015) I loved staying here. The purpose of my three-week trip was to improve my Spanish and learn about Mexican culture. This was the perfect place to do it. IslaMar is in a decidedly non-tourist part of town, which means you're far more likely to glimpse the heart and soul of Mexico here than you would be at a beach resort. You'll also save a lot of money on food and rent. I felt quite safe exploring the neighborhood and making the 10-minute walk downtown. If you don't feel like walking, you can hail a cab and ride practically anywhere you want to go in town for under $5.

The owner, Sherri, and her assistant Martin answered all my questions before and during my trip. The on-site staff were beyond friendly, sweet, and helpful with my every need. I asked for a Spanish tutor; they researched candidates and found me a great one. She improved my skills a lot, for very little money, and she was a joy to know. I hope she and I will be friends for life.

The property itself was comfortable and well maintained, with high-quality finishes. I was able to cook well in the kitchenette. The staff will wash, dry, and fold a huge bag of laundry for a small fee, so it's easy to stay here for longer time periods despite packing light.

IslaMar will be my first choice for all future trips to Cozumel. C. Dooley ~ Dallas, TX USA

(02/21/2015) - What a great place to spend Valentine’s Day 2015! And with their CARNAVAL starting in town tonight, couldn’t have picked a better location to get a slice of local life and culture! That’s why we were so happy at IslaMar. We really loved the attention and sweetness of Nidia, Andrea and Daniela who couldn’t’ have been more helpful and concerned about our comfort. The grounds and pool are so well maintained by Juan too! We thank Sherri and Mauricio for providing this piece of paradise in paradise. We understand why guests return like the swallows to Cozumel and to your IslaMar Villas. Thank you! B. & F. Elbeze ~ Fairfax, VA USA

(04/16/2015) - This is our second stay at IslaMar and once again it was wonderful. Nidia and Andrea were so friendly. Juan made us great drinks at PalMar Beach Club! Highly recommend Sherri’s beach club for relaxation to the max! Places to go: Punta Sur (get there early); Palancar Beach; Rolandi (especially for sunset); El Casa Del Mojito for Cuban food, drinks and maximum hospitality; Diego’s for their breakfast burrito; and Buccanos for high end food and romantic setting. Only regrets are that we can’t stay longer and that we still haven’t met Mauricio yet! We will be back for sure, as soonas we can! Cozumel Life Rules! P.S. – Rentadora ISiS for great car rental! R.
