(08/09/2014) - Found IslaMar on VRBO while looking for a place to stay for 3 weeks. Was very pleased to find the property was just as advertised. The staff was waiting for me on my arrival at the front door. The pool area is incredible and I enjoyed it very much during my time there. Hummingbirds frequently seen, and there is a local bakery close by, so the smell of fretted baked bread was often tempting me while at the pool. Sherri gave me the one bedroom condo upstairs and it again, was just as advertised. I found everything I needed and including the small touches such as the hammock. The apartment was immaculate! If there was anything missing, Zuri was there to help.

This is living "local style" which is what I was looking for, away from the tourist areas. I spent time walking about the area and did not have any problems whatsoever. It is about a 10-15 minute walk to the main tourist area. Taxis, if needed, are plentiful, affordable, and reliable. There are small, local places to eat close to IslaMar where the food is very good, and affordable. Sherri has a helpful guide book detailing all the good restaurants broken down by location and price. I was very pleased with the choice of Cozumel and IslaMar. Sherri, I will be back ! Stay (03/27/2014) - We truly enjoyed winter at our second home, IslaMar! Each of you at IslaMar provided a wonderful atmosphere given the tragedy of loss of a beloved staff member. None of you has had an opportunity to mourn his loss, as you all have been knee-deep taking care of all of us. We were hesitant to mention Miguel, but we wished to honor him as an intricate part of the IslaMar family for many enjoyable years. Sherri, Mauricio and Zuri, thank you for taking care of us! (08/08/2015) - Stayed in this wonderful gated area located outside the tourist side of Cozumel and loved it! Located in the local's neighborhood we felt very safe and welcomed by the people on the streets and the wonderful hotel staff who were so easy to work with before our arrival and during our stay. Many good restaurants within a short walking distance, as was downtown and we were able to park our rental car right outside the entrance. We were a bit worried about being off the water during our visit in August but found a wonderful breeze coming through the compound the whole time both upstairs and down in the courtyard. Our room was very comfortable, there was a really comprehensive folder of recommendations on places to go and see, the pool was wonderful and the refrigerator was stocked with beer at $1 USD a bottle! Can't beat that! IslaMar is definitely worth considering for a stay and we will be back!!!! J. & D. Dannecker ~ White Lake, MI USA

Stay (03/30/2012) - A wonderful, wonderful three (3) months here! God willing, we will come again! It is always great to see Zuri, she is like our own family in Cozumel. She takes wonderful care of us. We love her jokes and she is always so happy! Our love. Art & Pam B. ~ Portland, OR

(01/02/2016) - IslaMar is a great place set back from the beachfront and big resorts. It is living in Mexico, if you get my drift. IslaMar is back perhaps 6 or 7 blocks from the resorts. We wanted something different this time. I loved being back with the local vibe. There are restaurants with amazing food back here. You walk to them. We walked at night through the narrow streets and visited with the friendly people. We felt safe. I'm not telling you what to do, I'm just telling you what we did. We also rented a small car and went to the beach every day. We found our dollars went a long ways in the grocery store. No place is too far away on Cozumel. Christmas Night we wandered into a park with an amphitheater. There was a clown performing. There were perhaps 200 locals there and we saw one other gringo. I loved being there and watching these beautiful people. They all seemed glad to see us. Is it for everybody? Probly not. There is a nice little clean pool, but nobody is going to bring you a margarita. If you have a hankering for fries at midnight, not going to happen. If you are set on a resort, this is not your place. But If you want to stay in a beautiful affordable villa with super cleaning and other services and run by great folks in the middle of town, you should try this. I love it and can't wait to go back!
