A Personal Note from Sherri "Update - No Improvement for Us"

I deliberately refrained from posting anything new here for several weeks because I tried to remain optimistic and hopeful of being able to report good news to you eventually. But that has not come to pass. It has been over a month now since Mauricio and I were surrounded on Cozumel’s highway by unmarked vehicles, removed and hand cuffed by plain clothed thugs with guns and jailed on Federal charges somehow resurrected from dead archives put away long ago for “lack of evidence.”
Then just last week, as we were scheduled to appear at the Federal courthouse for one of the countless hearings on these bogus Federal charges, 12 STATE police showed up (along with a representative of Comer to identify us) to arrest us under the trespassing charges….where we will not be eligible for bail at all. This happened despite the existence of a protection order (amparo) we had in place where the Cozumel Criminal Judge (Rosaura Villanueva) was supposed to divulge in writing what the State charges against us were and to disclose if she was issuing a detention order for us. Even though she supposedly (by law) had just a couple of days to respond, she took over 3 weeks to answer and then delivered a statement dated 4 days earlier saying “at this time, there are no charges and no detention order.” (Of course charges and a detention order were created AFTER she wrote the Court ordered response….how convenient.) Now we struggle to not be jailed again under these additional false charges.
I had given Mr. Comer the benefit of the doubt earlier by saying that he probably wasn’t aware of what his agents were doing. But now, it is clear he is aware, approves of and continues to fund these efforts against us.
In addition, it can be said that Felix, Borge, Juan Carlos, Aurelio and Gustavo all know what is happening and have turned a blind eye to the gringa’s problems. These are all local and State politicians whose governments have directly benefited from my 12+ years of raising thousands of dollars in donations and recruiting hundreds of volunteers for their city run programs like Carnaval, the City Lifeguards and the Marine Turtle Program. It appears my paltry community service contributions are all meaningless in the face of a mega gazillionaire condo developer like Comer.
I wish I had better news to report but the fact is that we have been displaced from our Cozumel home and businesses for over a month now and we have no hope of returning since the minute we do, we will be arrested again under the trespassing charges that Comer and Villalobos refuse to dismiss

This sort of judicial EXTORTION is unacceptable for Cozumel investors, businesses and travelers.
It literally implies that a foreigner can have a simple “fender bender” and end up in jail being accused of attempted murder. Why or how? All it takes for this to happen is exactly what has happened to Mauricio and I: local police in collusion with a criminal judge and an unethical lawyer can all work together to EXTORT foreigners out of cash, property or whatever in exchange for NOT BEING CHARGED WITH A CRIME. Bail is not available to those charged with attempted murder so the poor guy who just had a fender bender will sit in a Mexican prision (like they are trying to do to us) for up to a year just waiting for his case to go before the judge….or else he will PAY THE EXTORTION which then gets divided up amongst those in collusion.
Please don't say this doesn’t happen in Cozumel ~ because it’s happening to us! I will continue to write about what is happening to us until its conclusion so that the depth and breadth of what occurs in Cozumel and Quintana Roo is known and understood by potential investors, retirees and travelers. They have a right to know the truth about where they are visiting.

Sherri ~ WOW!!! We just returned from our cruise! What a wonderful time we had!! Your COZUMELINSIDER.com bookings for our Dolphin snorkel adventure and Sea Trek were the highlight of the cruise. They were easy and saved us about half the cost of booking through the cruise line. We simply hopped into a cab and spent the day at the Park (we could have spent a week there.) They were even able to work us into the Sea Trek early. All the people were friendly, helpful and overall just treated us great. While we were standing around waiting a short little man came up and ask if we wanted a snorkel tour. I instantly remembered what you had said and looked at his name tag. It was Mario! His tour was fantastic! If you see him ask him if he remembers Señor Ed and his family (he never caught that my name was Ted, but that’s okay!) I had a waterproof digital camera and he snapped lots of pictures of us. We had a wonderful time and much of it was thanks to you, your website and staff!
I know you probably get lots of pictures but I had to send you three. Look at the smiles on my boy’s faces. That says it all! Thank you so much for all your help and advice. We can’t wait to return. i've been on your site for the last week just checking everything out i'm telling you that you have the best site for learning about cozumel to all the execursions that are offered. also the information about how to get to the hotel from the airport with the cost about the ferry to every question that a person like myself would have that is planning on travelling to your beautiful country we are planning on retiring there. our family and myself will be arriving in cancun on december 5, 2008 and then going on to cozumel on december 6, 2008 we will be staying at the reef and then park royal but i printed out coupons and all the info about the ferry the ado bus and all the execursions we want to do . i'm lucky because i speak the language and i love to talk to people i would love to also get the pleasure of meeting with you which i'm sure i will since we plan on doing alot of your execursions. thank you for this beautiful site i enjoyed every minute i spend on it i look forward to hearing back from you! fanny janet bennett ~ belleriver ontario canada

We cannot begin to express our thanks to Sherri and the staff at IslaMar Villas for our wonderful 11-night stay. This was our third time staying at IslaMar Villas and for us it's the only place to stay in Cozumel. It has truly become our home away from home. We love the apartments, the courtyard and pool, and the warm and friendly neighborhood.
We also used "COZUMELINSIDER" to book our car rental with Avis. It went very smoothly and you guys also helped us trade in our little Chevy Pop for something a little bigger.
A big THANK YOU to Sherri for introducing us to a wonderful private driver on the mainland and for arranging our excursion to Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and Akumal. We were so happy that we decided to finally venture off the island and go to the mainland to see the ruins. The driver Sherri arranged for us was extremely friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we saw things we wouldn't have even known about had we taken the car ferry and driven on our own. To anyone looking for a private tour of places on the mainland, we highly recommend asking Sherri to arrange it for you. It was well worth it!
