Cozumel to Cancun Whale Shark Snorkel Day Trip
Guests staying in Cozumel will enjoy this once in a lifetime opportunity to snorkel with whale sharks, the gentle giants of the sea, as an excellent day trip off the island. Guests staying in Playa del Carmen, Tulum or any resort along the coast along the way to Cancun can also be picked up and transported onto this Cancun Whale Shark Adventure.

The Cancun Whale Shark Snorkel Adventure will have you travel to the mainland from Cozumel via ferry to a designated spot or waiting in your Playa del Carmen/Tulum hotel for transport pick up. On the mainland guests will then ride in a comfortable shuttle to a beautiful Cancun marina and harbor where a coffee, juice, fruit and sweet bread reception awaits before the adventure begins. Guest will then board a snorkel boat equipped with a small bathroom and shade to begin searching for the world's biggest fish - the whale shark. The boat will travel out to sea to locate the whale sharks for the snorkel adventure and guests can enjoy gourmet sandwiches, fruit, water & soft drinks during the ride out.

Once whale sharks are sited, participants will enter the water 2 at a time to snorkel while others view the interaction from the surface. Each group of 2 will enter the water and snorkel 3 different times. After about 2 or 2.5 hours of snorkeling and viewing the whale sharks and taking pictures, the boat will begin the journey back toward the Cancun harbor. Along the way back, the crew will stop at an Isla Mujeres reef/beach area where guests will be treated to fresh shrimp ceviche, guacamole, chips and a coupla Coronas to wash it all down before heading back to the Cancun Marina. Here guests will disembark and return via shuttle to Playa del Carmen/Tulum or Cozumel via shuttle and ferry.

Known as "Dominoes" to the local fishermen in this region because of the coloring of their skin, these giant whale sharks can exceed 40 feet in length. They migrate to this area of the Yucatan peninsula to feed in the abundant plankton filled water and play with their off-spring. Since plankton thrives near the surface of the sea, whale sharks glide along with their dorsal fin and tail out of the water as they take in as much plankton food as they possibly can. An incredible sight to behold in the pristine waters well north of Isla Mujeres and Isla Contoy, snorkelers are treated to a thrilling experience.

This congregation phenomenon only occurs in this region during the summer months of June - September as the whale sharks continue on their annual migratory path. While not guaranteed, quite often there will also be schooling mantas and schooling cownose rays in these same waters for snorkelers to see.

Just wanted to thank COZUMELINSIDER for getting us booked for our activities while we were in Cozumel. The dolphin swim was fantastic! I'd do it again in a minute. We didn't get to do the SNUBA diving ..... we ended up doing the Helmet dive instead for the same price. We plan on visiting Cozumel again possibly next year and will be contacting you to book some excursions prior to our vacation. We saved a significant amount of money booking the excursions through COZUMELINSIDER instead of the cruise line. Thanks again! S.Forgette and G Wichtowski ~ Not Given

My family and I have returned to Cozumel many times - it's a favorite destination and we have watched it change over the past 20 years. The Cozumel Insider is a great publication - it's a wonderful way to keep up with the news about one of our favorite islands. We are preparing to visit again this August and the Insider has shown us some different activities to try, as well as helped to bring us up to date with local political and ecological happenings. We're delighted to see the interest in wildlife conservation throughout the area. Keep up the good work on this terrific site. D. McClean ~ unknown

My wife and I are so pleased to have discovered your site. We fell in love with Cozumel the first time we visited. Our plans are to retire in Cozumel, your site will help us to grow in our knowledge of the island and hopefully begin our journey of protecting the islands unique heritage.
Thank you for your hard work, Nathan & Marcy Havner ~ Cheyenne Wyoming USA

Hello my name is Brent C. and I did the Turtle Observation & Release on June 27th. I can honestly not put into words how great and breathtaking the whole experience was! it has always been a dream of mine to watch turtles nest up close and personal but you guys topped that dream and did even better! I almost cried tears of joy when i found out I got to get up close and help remove the turtle eggs as she was laying them! I plan on becoming a marine biologist one day and this whole experience has pushed me farther into my passion for marine biology! I can not say thank you enough! Also cant forget the helpful crew of young men and women that helped us along the night and where ever so kind! Here is a picture of the green sea turtle I named April after she had laid her eggs! Thanks and God Bless Brent C ~ USA
