Day Off for Constitution Day |
|
If you are visiting Cozumel in early February, you will more than likely be here for Constitution Day (Día de la Constitución). We now celebrate this momentous day in the history of Mexico on the first Monday of February, so if you are on the island, you can expect to see a lot of national pride and celebrations throughout Cozumel and all of Mexico on the recognition of this momentous event in Mexico's history.
The "day off" is a major national holiday in Mexico and all banks, government offices, schools and most businesses are closed. The day is celebrated with grand parades across the nation, much like the celebration of Constitution Day in other parts of the world. You will find many music concerts, parties and other festivities with family and friends gathering together to celebrate the rights provided by Mexico's constitution. The president will also often address the country on national television.
There is a lot of pride and honor felt by all locals, so plan on celebrating with us if you are here visiting on the island on the first Monday of February! For more detailed information about the actual Constitution of Mexico and how it came to be, please CLICK HERE for Constitution Day details!
