Day Off for Benito Juárez's Birthday |
|
If you are visiting Cozumel around the twenty-first (21st) of March, you will be pulled into the celebration of the birth of Benito Juárez. Benito Juárez's birthday is on March 21st and this was formerly the day of the celebration, but to simplify this annual occurrence, starting in 2007, the country officially recognizes this celebration of his birth on the third (3rd) Monday of March. If you happen to be in Cozumel on this 3rd Monday or within Mexico, you can expect to see a lot of celebrating throughout the country in recognition of the contributions Benito Juárez made to the country during his lifetime and the impact his devotion and efforts made to Mexico's history.
The "day off" is a major federal holiday across Mexico and all banks, government offices, schools and most businesses are closed. The day is celebrated with parades across the nation with the largest being held in his birth city of San Pablo Guelateo. There are many activities, including music concerts, fireworks, dance contests and other festivities with family and friends gathering together to celebrate the birth of Benito Juarez.
So if you are here in Cozumel, as we always say, we can find multiple ways to party, please plan on celebrating with us this third (3rd) Monday in March!
